Steamed Bau Buns
Today I will share with you step by step of preparing Steamed Bau Buns. I used a recipe I found online as a base, and made some adaptations.
Here are the ingredients:
500g plain flour
2 Spoons of sugar
2 tsp fast-action dried yeast
50ml milk
200ml water
2 tbsp Sesame oil
2 spoons canola oil for greasing and brushing
1 tbsp white wine vinegar
First step, dissolve the dry yeast with the sugar in the water and let the yeast activate for a few minutes.
Next, mix all the ingredients (except the canola oil), in the mixer until is is well combined. Add a bit of water/flour if you feel the dough is a bit dry.
Once done, let the dough rest, and rise for about an hour.
Next, roll the dough into a long sausage, and cut into balls of approximately 100gr.
Use a rolling pin to flatten the dough into ovals, and let it rest in a tray and rise for an additional 30 minutes in a warm place, and prepare your steamer with boiling water.
Brush your buns with the canola oil, and then fold and place in steamer for 6 to 7 minutes. Take your buns out, open and fill with your favourite ingredients, and enjoy!
